The instant God of some modern preachers is not appealing....
The God I want and the one I have grown to
love is the one whom even his son Jesus Christ says that he has not even
revealed to him when his return will be – “The times and occasions are set by the
father’s own authority and it is not for you to know when they will be”
Acts 1:7.
The God I love is the God who in Mathew says “God’s
wisdom, however, is shown to be true by its results” Matt 11:19b
The modern God of some present modern preachers
has been presented to us, so leisurely that he is an instant God. And for him
to bless all one needs is to sow a specific seed in terms of money depending on
the intensity of your need and voila! the miracle will happen.
The God I enjoy telling people about is the
one many say has three responses to our prayers Yes, Wait, or No. Now that is the God I love. When
you have prayed earnestly and then you get a wait response that does not mean,
he will not give you whatever it is you are seeking from him. From experience
we have learnt, it just means not now. We have seen and read even from the good
book that when he finally blesses you, everyone will hear about it and you will
truly bow down and worship in him awe of his majesty. In other words when the
Yes answer comes you start wondering just like Sarah if you can still truly
enjoy the pleasures of the flesh. The miracle from God tickles you at the mere thought
of it. With God suspense does not kill you.
What I wonder as human parents am sure the
instant miracle preachers do not give their children whatever they ask for, why
do they feel it is okay to preach contrarily about the God they proclaim serve.
If what we do here on earth is what is done in heaven, at what point is their
gospel taking a detour? The instant God message is not appealing. When we were
growing up we did not get everything we asked from our parents. We knew
whatever we asked for one would get it or not and it was dependent on when
funds were available. Hence we learn't self-control and it also molded our
character. Why are we allowing the prosperity preachers to undo what we were
taught from their pulpits yet the good book tells us what we should to do with
the Spirits “My dear friends, do not believe all who claim to have the Spirit, but
test them to find out if the spirit they have comes from God…”(1John
4:1-3). How can they tell us whatever we ask as long as we give money we will
get from God?
Instant things are not appealing….
Test the Spirit…
