If You Cannot Convince Them Confuse Them…
One of my lecturers used to say that.
What he meant was, pastors when unable to preach a simple message prefer to use
big words to confuse the members. I yearn for the day church people will be
confident enough to ask preachers questions “excuse Pastor before you sit, you
have used so many big words but I fail to see their relevance…” The point is
the bible encourages people to question what you do not understand. 1 John
3:1-3 “…beloved, do not believe all who
claim to have the spirit but test them to find out if the spirit they have
comes from God…”
These days we see people believing every
manner of teaching about giving, sowing seeds, wrong scripture interpretations,
anointing messages and wrong prophecies. We hear stories of people who have
been told to withdraw all their savings and sow a seed. honestly we do not
serve an unfaithful God or an unfair God who leaves his people broke, God
utmost, wants to see if you can be faithful with the little that you have
through giving your 10% and then God expects to you to invest the other monies
in ventures that will give you good returns so that you can have enough to sow
those other seeds and not give all your money to an individual and then go back
to ask, beg that the doors and windows of heaven open so that he can rain money
from heaven common think and question before you make the withdrawal.
The other stories we hear are of women
who are so desperate to conceive that they attend anointing services where
every part of the body is anointed and this takes place in a hotel room please
be serious. Woman stop and think why would someone want to anoint your breasts,
nature has it that once a baby is put on the breast, milk starts to flow you do
not need any anointing preparations there. Anointing your vagina that does not also
make sense the pastor is just supposed to pray for you and then you go home to
know your husband and this should be done in presence of people so that they
can be witnesses of your miracle. For example in Hannah’s case Eli the priest
just said “…go in peace and may the God
of Israel give you what you have asked him for…” 1 Sam 1:17, and then she
went home and knew her husband lo and behold Samuel. So if the pastor is truly
a servant of God tell him you are content with his prayers and want to save him
all the trouble of preparing his anointing implements and that you will go and
test the prayers later that night with your husband.
I repeat it is okay to question and God
will not strike you dead if you do, God is very loving and likes people to
question things Judges 6:13 Gideon is questioning the angel “… if I may ask, sir, why has all this
happened to us if the LORD is with us? What about all the wonderful things that
our father told us the LORD used to do – how he brought them out of Egypt? The
LORD has abandoned us and left us to the mercy of the Midianites…” Acts
17:10-15 the Bereans listened to Paul then went home and searched the
scriptures that can only happen when you question. Habakkuk is asking God, Hab
1 “…so why are you silent while they
destroy people who are more righteous than they are...?” Jonah runs away
from an Assignment and later tells God, honestly God what was the point of
sending me I knew you would not destroy them. This guy was real.
Good people, these days we need to be
observant and we should learn to listen to what is being said. Let us not be
afraid of the big words that confuse us and be courageous enough to question
what we do not understand. We should become like little kids who keep nagging
you with questions when they do not understand, so do not be afraid to look at
that fire breathing pastor and ask him what he means by going for an anointing
session in a hotel.
Women if you go for that anointing
session in a hotel room just remember to carry condoms because that there is a booty
call.
But I could be wrong...
